This magnificent Jacobean town house has been exquisitly designed to provide self catering Hay on Wye accommodation where the 'wow' factor reigns supreme! However, be warned this holiday house, when not rented, is our home and is not child-proofed - a dream holiday vacation rental for adults!
Choosing this town house as your dream holiday house is like walking into another time! It's situated in a quiet location, a minute’s walk from the centre of the medieval market town of Hay-on-Wye, deep in the heart of the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
A lovingly restored Jacobean house built circa 1620 on three floors, it has a large, semi-formal garden at the back with lawn and seating areas; a sunken box parterre garden in the front with pleached crab apple trees; and wisteria and roses around the door. This is rare self-catering Hay-on-Wye accommodation.
In addition to the Library, the house has a relaxing Oak floored Drawing room with period furniture, lime plastered walls and wood burning stove. The Dining room seats ten comfortably round a table set with hand made lace & linen table cloth. The large Kitchen is a less formal reception room with open fireplace, relaxing seating, and a mahogany table for up to six. Large French doors lead out to garden and provides access to outside seating on a sunny day.
The kitchen was originally built as a school-room for local children - the house was a school in the 1840s - and to prove it, we found pieces of old chalk and marbles beneath the floorboards!
Full viewing equipment is available in the drawing room for your enjoyment with flat screen TV, DVD player, free broadband and WiFi, radio/CD player, plus a stock of DVDs. We do not have ‘live’ TV or Sky.
CDs and a large selection of books are available, maps to borrow, cards & games, and leaflets describing ‘what’s on’ in and around Hay-on-Wye.
Fresh seasonal and locally sourced flowers are presented on your arrival.
There are four bedrooms - two twins and two doubles, each with its own uniquely designed bathroom:
A Mistress bedroom with French Bergere double bed, walk-in wardrobes & en-suite marble & mosaic bath, shower and thundebox housing the oldest WC in this Hay-on-Wye holiday house!
A Master bedroom with teak four-poster double bed & en-suite bathroom with cast iron bath, walk-in shower and walk-in wardrobe. It also houses a dry sauna for 3 - with its own sound system!
A twin bedroom on the first half landing with it's own TV and bijou bathroom with shower and loo. Views are onto the garden at the rear and the Herefordshire hills behind.
A further twin bedroom with a glorious view onto our sunken box parterre garden below, a secret garden beyond and the Welsh Radnorshire hills. It has its own luxury en-suite shower room with loo and Italian ceramic basin, and a walk-in wardrobe.
The first floor houses an Oak Library with its own oriental screen from northern Pakistan, marble fountain from Damascus and a four hundred-year-old hardwood borrowed-light window from southern India.
